Jalandhar: Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal on Sunday appealed to the public not to panic over fake reports of floods circulating on social media, clarifying that no such incident has been reported in the district so far.
Responding to rumors regarding floods in Jalandhar Cantonment area, Dr. Aggarwal said the district administration was keeping a close watch on the situation, which so far has remained completely under control. He added that some low-lying areas had witnessed water logging due to raised water levels in Chitti Bein due to overnight rain in catchment areas, which was wrongly portrayed as floodwater on social media platforms.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the district administration was fully prepared to deal with any eventuality, with adequate relief centres and essential material already pre-arranged. A district-level flood control room has also been set up at helpline number 0181-2224417 and state level control room number 0181-2240064 is also operation where citizens can seek information or assistance.
Urging people to remain alert and not fall prey to rumors, Dr. Aggarwal assured that the Punjab Government and district administration were firmly committed to safeguarding the interests of the public.
