CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday accused opposition parties, including the Congress, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP, of conceding defeat even before polling for the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections.
Talking to media persons here a day before voting, the Chief Minister said the opposition’s allegations against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) showed their frustration and fear of defeat. He said these parties had realised the outcome and were now trying to create false narratives.
Mann referred to remarks by former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who had claimed that the AAP had printed 100 ballot papers at every booth with pre-stamped broom symbols. Mann rejected the allegation and said such statements clearly indicated that the Congress had already accepted defeat.
He said instead of introspection, the opposition parties were levelling baseless charges to mislead voters and cover up their own failures ahead of the polls.
