Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir meets Xi Jinping during SCO summit in Tianjin

New Delhi: Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, accompanied by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s delegation, held a formal meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping after the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin.

According to officials, bilateral and regional cooperation was discussed in detail during the meeting. This marked Munir’s second visit to China since assuming charge as the Army Chief. During his earlier visit in July, he met Vice President Han Zheng but did not hold talks with President Xi.

The SCO summit, which concluded a day earlier, was also attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A joint declaration was issued at the conference condemning terrorism, with specific mention of the Pahalgam attack.

Earlier, Munir had been invited by former US President Donald Trump for lunch, an initiative that drew attention in both India and China given Islamabad’s close ties with Beijing.
