Chandigarh: The Parliamentary Standing Committee has summoned officials of the National Highway Authority of Punjab and the Rural Development Department following complaints of waterlogging caused by ongoing highway construction in several districts.
Officials have been directed to present relevant records and explain why natural water drainage has been obstructed. The committee said the issue has surfaced in multiple areas, leading to damage to crops and loss of soil due to water overflow.
Farmers have raised concerns that the construction of highways has disrupted drainage channels, resulting in large-scale crop destruction.
The committee has asked the departments to present their plan to address the issue and ensure that similar problems do not occur in the future.
