PCB slaps ₹50 lakh fine on senior players after Pakistan crash out of T20 World Cup

Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed heavy financial penalties on key members of the national team following Pakistan’s exit from the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

According to reports, captain Babar Azam, pacer Shaheen Afridi and all-rounder Shadab Khan are among those fined 5 million Pakistani rupees each (approximately ₹15 lakh) for poor performances in the tournament.

Action after early exit

The decision comes after Pakistan’s defeat to India in Sri Lanka last month and their early elimination from the competition.

Pakistan had qualified for the Super 8 stage after wins over Namibia and the United States, but the team failed to maintain momentum in the next round, leading to criticism over inconsistent performances.

Performance-linked earnings

Sources said the PCB has decided to adopt a stricter approach, making it clear that repeated underperformance will not be overlooked. The board is reportedly considering linking future payments and facilities strictly to players’ performances.

The move signals a tough stance by the PCB as it looks to rebuild the team following another disappointing global campaign.
