Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced financial assistance of ₹1,600 crore for Punjab and ₹1,500 crore for Himachal Pradesh following severe floods in both states.
In Punjab, Modi visited Gurdaspur and interacted with flood-affected farmers, as well as teams from the NDRF and SDRF, before holding a meeting with ministers and officials. In Himachal, he conducted an aerial survey of damage in Kullu, Mandi, and Chamba districts and reviewed losses in a meeting at Kangra.
The Prime Minister said the central government would provide all possible support. Compensation of ₹2 lakh will be given to the next of kin of the deceased, and ₹50,000 to those injured.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu attended the meetings, and Modi also met residents affected by the floods, including one-year-old Nitika, who lost her family in a cloudburst in Mandi.
