New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday criticised the Congress over the excesses committed during the Emergency, saying those who imposed it “killed the Constitution” and wanted to keep the judiciary as their “slave”.
Speaking during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Modi referred to remarks made by prominent leaders opposing the Emergency and said these should be remembered to inspire people to remain vigilant in protecting the Constitution.
Without naming the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Modi criticised the Congress for its actions during the Emergency.
The remarks come amid an ongoing war of words between the BJP and Congress over the Emergency, with the Congress alleging that an undeclared emergency continues under the Modi government.
