PM Modi chairs NDA meeting today on Article 370 anniversary amid speculation over Kashmir agenda

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of MPs from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Tuesday, August 5. The meeting is being viewed as politically significant, coming on the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.

The gathering will take place at 9:30 am at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament Library Building. In a notice issued today, the BJP requested the presence of all NDA members from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The last major NDA Parliamentary Party meeting was held on July 2, 2024, shortly after Modi was sworn in as Prime Minister for a third consecutive term. Although NDA MPs have since been invited to BJP Parliamentary Party meetings—which traditionally occur every Tuesday—the practice has become irregular in recent months.

Tuesday’s meeting also follows a high-level security review held on Monday, when Union Home Minister Amit Shah met top officials including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka at his office in Parliament.

Political observers say the timing of the NDA meeting carries symbolic weight for PM Modi and the BJP.

On August 5, 2019, the government revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370 and bifurcated the state into two union territories—Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. A year later, on August 5, 2020, Modi presided over the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Both events are seen as milestones in the BJP’s ideological agenda, adding significance to the date of the upcoming meeting.
