PM Modi condemns remarks against late mother, calls it insult to every woman in India

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday broke his silence over derogatory remarks made against his late mother by leaders of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress during joint election rallies in Bihar. Modi said the insult to his mother was an insult to every mother, daughter and sister in the country.

Speaking at the launch of the State Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahakari Sangh Limited in Bihar through video conferencing, the Prime Minister said he was sharing his pain with the women of Bihar. “I know that the mothers, daughters and sisters of Bihar are as pained by this humiliation as I am,” he said.

Modi recalled his mother’s role in his life and said she had no connection with politics. “Every mother wants her son to serve her. But my mother allowed me to give up all paternal duties so that I could dedicate my life to the service of the country. A mother who contributed immensely to my life was attacked with abuses,” he said.

The Prime Minister added that he has been serving society and the nation for more than five decades. Remembering his mother, who passed away after completing 100 years, Modi said the women of Bihar would relate to the grief caused by the opposition’s remarks.
