Following the airport-related programmes, Modi visited Dera Sachkhand Ballan. The visit assumes significance as the Centre had recently announced the Padma Shri award for Dera head Sant Niranjan Das.
The Centre has also released ₹181 crore under the post-matric scholarship scheme and organised a special event in Jalandhar as part of initiatives linked to the Guru Ravidas Jayanti celebrations.
Meanwhile, Congress leader and party’s Punjab affairs in-charge Bhupesh Baghel demanded that the Prime Minister announce a special financial package for Punjab.
Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu said the Union Budget was presented on the sacred occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti. He added that Modi traditionally observes the occasion in Varanasi every year and has once again honoured Guru Ravidas by naming the Adampur airport after him.
Bittu also referred to Bhagwant Mann as a partner in Punjab’s development, claiming that the state has made significant progress in recent years.
