NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday appealed to citizens to uphold their constitutional duties, saying these responsibilities form the foundation of a strong democracy.
In a letter addressed to the public on the occasion of Constitution Day, PM Modi highlighted the importance of strengthening democracy by actively participating in the electoral process.
He said that exercising the right to vote is a crucial responsibility that every citizen must fulfil.
PM Modi suggested that schools and colleges should celebrate Constitution Day by honouring first-time voters who have recently turned 18, calling it a meaningful way to encourage democratic participation among the youth.
Recalling Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy, PM Modi said that rights naturally emerge when duties are performed with sincerity. He added that the performance of duties plays a vital role in ensuring social and economic progress.
