PM Modi visits flood-hit Himachal Pradesh, reviews damage with CM Sukhu

Shimla: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited the flood and landslide-affected areas of Himachal Pradesh after conducting an aerial survey of Mandi and Kullu districts.

He landed at Gaggal airport in Kangra around 1.30 pm, where he was received by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri. After visiting the affected areas, PM Modi will travel from Kangra to Pathankot in Punjab and later proceed to Gurdaspur.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to hold a meeting with Chief Minister Sukhu and senior officials for a presentation on the damage caused during this year’s monsoon. According to the state government, Himachal Pradesh has suffered losses of more than ₹4,500 crore. At least 370 people have died and 41 remain missing.

The public works department has been the worst hit, with roads and bridges badly damaged.

Since June 20, the state has recorded 136 landslides, 95 flash floods and 45 cloudbursts, which have severely damaged public infrastructure and private property.

Officials said 615 roads, including four national highways, remain closed, while 1,748 power transformers and 461 water schemes are non-functional.
