New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said tariffs on Made in India products will be reduced to 18% following a conversation with US President Donald Trump, calling the move a significant boost for bilateral economic ties.
In a post on social media, Modi said he had a “wonderful” conversation with Trump and thanked him on behalf of India’s 1.4 billion people for the decision to lower tariffs on Indian goods. He said cooperation between two large economies and the world’s largest democracies would benefit citizens of both countries and unlock new opportunities for mutually beneficial growth.
The prime minister also praised Trump’s leadership, describing it as vital for global peace, stability and prosperity, and said India fully supports his efforts aimed at peace.
Modi said he looked forward to working closely with the US president to take the India–US partnership to “unprecedented heights”, signalling deeper engagement across trade, strategic cooperation and global issues.
