Chandigarh: Mohali police have registered a case against the manager of Gurudwara Amb Sahib and six others for allegedly selling gurdwara land in Saini Majra village near IT City through forged documents, officials said.
The first information report (FIR) has been lodged at the Sohana police station on a complaint filed by the secretary of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The accused have been booked on charges of cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Deputy superintendent of police (City-2) Harsimran Singh Bal confirmed that the case has been registered against gurdwara manager Rajinder Singh and six others — Gurinder Singh, Talwinder Singh, Satbir, Baljinder Singh, Jaswinder Singh and Gurcharan Singh. Police said all the accused are currently absconding.
According to investigators, forged documents were allegedly prepared at the sub-registrar’s office in Sector 76, Mohali, to facilitate the registration of 44 marlas of land on December 2 last year. The land, located in village Saini Majra (Sector 101), is recorded as gurdwara property, but the sale deed reportedly claimed it did not belong to any religious institution. The land was allegedly sold to multiple buyers for around ₹1.32 crore.
Following the disclosure, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami had constituted a five-member committee to probe the matter and placed the gurdwara manager under suspension. Villagers later wrote to the SGPC seeking strict action and cancellation of the land registry.
An SGPC member from Mohali had earlier alleged that no public notice or open auction was conducted for the sale, claiming the land could have fetched ₹15–20 crore through a transparent process. Police said further investigation is underway and efforts are being made to trace and arrest the accused.
