Washington: US President Donald Trump on Monday said he would “substantially” increase the tariffs India pays to the United States, alleging that New Delhi is profiting from Russian oil despite the ongoing war in Ukraine.
“India is not only buying a large amount of Russian oil, but they are selling most of the oil they bought in the open market for a huge profit,” Trump said in a post on social media.
“They don’t care how many people are being killed in Ukraine by Russian war machines. Because of this, I will significantly increase the tariff that India pays to the US,” he added.
Trump did not provide evidence for his claims but said the move would be part of his broader strategy to hold nations accountable for their international dealings if he returns to office.
