Washington: US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will impose a 30 per cent tax on goods imported from Mexico and the European Union starting August 1. Trump shared the information through a post on his social media platform.
This is not the first time Trump has announced new tariffs on imports from other countries. A day earlier, he said he would increase taxes on Canadian imported goods by up to 35 per cent, following a 25 per cent tax announced in February.
Four days ago, Trump had also announced a 25 per cent tariff on goods imported from Japan and South Korea, along with new tax rates on a dozen other countries, set to take effect from August 1.
The announcement was made through a letter addressed to the leaders of these countries, which Trump posted on Truth Social.
