Toronto: A pro-Khalistan organization, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has reportedly claimed to have opened an embassy of the self-declared ‘Republic of Khalistan’ at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara Complex in Surrey, British Columbia.
The building, constructed with funds from the Canadian government, was recently fitted with a board marking it as the embassy at a cost of $150,000.
Previously, the structure served as a community centre for the local Sikh population.
India has expressed concern over the building’s use for pro-Khalistan activities. This development is expected to further strain already tense Indo-Canadian relations.
