Chandigarh: The second day of the Punjab Assembly’s special session began with an uproar on Thursday as the government prepared to introduce an important bill on the desecration of religious texts. The session, which was scheduled to end this week, has now been extended to July 15, Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said.

Five additional bills aimed at removing CISF security from dams will also be introduced during the session. The proceedings are set to begin at 10 am with a Calling Attention Motion, under which MLA Karambir Singh Ghuman will raise the issue of the poor condition of the Dasuya bus stand.

The opposition is preparing to corner the government over issues of law and order, land pooling, and drugs. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has said that the government will respond to all the questions raised by the opposition and that the law on sacrilege will be framed after consultations with all parties before being sent to the Consultative Committee.

During the session, reports of five departments will be presented. The agenda also includes the Ryat Bahra Professional University Hoshiarpur Bill, CGC University Mohali Bill, Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Amendment Bill 2025, Punjab Labour Welfare Fund Amendment Bill 2025, and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Punjab Amendment Bill 2025.
