Chandigarh: The Punjab Vidhan Sabha has constituted a 15-member select committee to review the legislation being brought by the state government to check incidents of sacrilege. The committee has been asked to submit its report within six months.
The panel includes 11 MLAs from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), two from Congress, one from BJP and one from Shiromani Akali Dal.
On the last day of the special session, the House had decided to refer the proposed bill to the select committee to seek public opinion before enacting it into law.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had introduced the ‘Punjab Prevention of Crime against Holy Scriptures Bill, 2025’ in the Vidhan Sabha.
