CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Monday convened a special session at a waterproof tent in Bhai Jaita Ji Memorial Park, Sri Anandpur Sahib, to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. This is the first time in nearly 63 years that the Assembly has conducted its proceedings outside Chandigarh.
During the session, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that Galiara around Amritsar, Anandpur Sahib and Talwandi Sabo would be granted the status of holy cities.
The House unanimously passed the resolution and approved a plan to allocate a special budget for the development of these cities.
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan had earlier designated Bhai Jaita Ji Memorial Park as the temporary Vidhan Sabha Complex. Nearly 500 chairs were arranged for the session, and most MLAs had reached the tent city at Anandpur Sahib by Sunday.
