Punjab cabinet allows departments to make purchases up to Rs 5 lakh without tender

Chandigarh: Punjab government departments will now be able to purchase goods worth up to Rs 5 lakh without issuing tenders, following an approval given at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday.

Officials said the new limit is aimed at speeding up procurement and improving efficiency across departments. The cabinet also approved scrutiny of all registered societies and trusts operating in the state. A manager will be appointed to oversee the examination, which will include a review of financial transactions.

The government has further decided to empanel private specialist doctors to strengthen healthcare services. These doctors will be offered incentives, while additional incentives will be provided to teachers and doctors deployed in border areas.

Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said after the meeting that the government has decided to install GPS devices in vehicles to curb illegal mining. He said the step would help track vehicle movement and tighten enforcement.
