Chandigarh: The Punjab cabinet on Friday approved the establishment of a digital open university in the state under the Punjab Private Digital Open University Policy. The new university will allow students to pursue education from home.
During the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, approval was also given to convert the existing Baba Heera Singh Bhathal College in Lehragaga into a medical college. In its initial phase, the new medical college will have 100 seats and a 220-bed hospital. The existing college staff, who had not received salaries for the past 36 months, will be reassigned to other positions. The new medical college will be linked with hospitals in Khanuri and Moonak.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goel shared details of the cabinet’s decisions.
The cabinet also approved a 22.5% reduction in reserved plot prices in GMADA, following which previously unsold high-value plots will be put up for bidding again, based on recommendations from a three-member committee.
