Chandigarh: The Punjab government has approved the prosecution of former Congress minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot in a corruption case, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said after a cabinet meeting in Chandigarh on Wednesday.
The Vigilance Bureau had registered an FIR against Dharamsot in June 2022, alleging that he accepted a bribe of ₹1.67 crore. A government spokesperson said action will also be initiated against him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) 2022. The cabinet has sent a recommendation to the governor to proceed with the prosecution.
Cheema also said that the cabinet approved the central government’s decision to cut GST rates, which will be passed in the upcoming assembly session.
In another key decision, the cabinet cleared the establishment of a special court under the Sessions Judge in Mohali to handle all cases currently pending in different courts under the National Investigation Agency (NIA). While the Punjab government will make arrangements for the court, the expenses will be borne by the Centre, he added.
