Chandigarh: A couple in Punjab discovered that they had won a ₹3 crore lottery prize two days after the official draw, after initially overlooking the result.
According to available details, the lottery draw was held on March 14 and the results were announced the same day. The first prize of ₹3 crore was won by ticket number 791016.
Despite widespread media reports stating that the winner had not come forward, the couple did not realise that the winning ticket was in their possession. They said they had seen news reports and television broadcasts about the unclaimed prize but assumed it was not related to them.
The realisation came when they passed by a lottery seller in Phillaur and checked their ticket. Upon verification, they confirmed that their ticket number matched the winning number.
Describing the moment as emotional and unbelievable, the winner said he had jokingly told his wife while handing over the ticket that it was worth ₹3 crore, unaware that it would turn out to be true.
