CHANDIGARH: Punjab DIG (Ropar Range) Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a bribery case, has been suspended by the state government. Bhullar was arrested on Saturday from his Mohali office along with another person in connection with an alleged bribe of ₹8 lakh.
According to Rule 3(2) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, a government servant detained for more than forty-eight hours is deemed to be suspended by the concerned government. Bhullar’s suspension has been effective from October 16.
Following his arrest, the CBI conducted raids at Bhullar’s residence in Chandigarh’s Sector 40. The agency reportedly seized ₹7.5 crore in cash, 2.5 kg of gold, 22 expensive watches, 40 bottles of premium liquor, keys to two luxury vehicles — an Audi and a BMW — and property documents from various locations in Punjab.
Officials also recovered two rifles, pistols, revolvers, air guns and ammunition during the raid. Bhullar’s alleged aide, identified as Krishnanu, was arrested with ₹21 lakh in cash.
A CBI court has sent Bhullar to judicial custody in the case.
