Punjab gets cheaper power as government cuts electricity rates by up to ₹1.5 per unit

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has announced a reduction in electricity tariffs, offering relief to consumers across the state.

Under the new tariff order, the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reduced electricity rates for domestic consumers by up to ₹1.5 per unit. Power tariffs for shops and commercial establishments have been reduced by up to 79 paise per unit.

Industrial units will also benefit from the revised rates, with electricity charges reduced by 74 paise per unit.

In addition, electricity tariffs for EV charging stations have been brought down to ₹5 per unit, which officials say is among the lowest in the country.

According to the new tariff order, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has become an efficient and profitable company during the current government’s tenure. The utility recorded an A+ rating and a profit of ₹2,634 crore in the financial year 2024–25, which the government attributed to reforms and improved management.
