Chandigarh: The Punjab government has announced a series of holidays for upcoming festivals in the state. Diwali will be celebrated on October 20, followed by Vishwakarma Day on October 22.
Meanwhile, October 16 has been declared a reserved holiday on the birth anniversary of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur. Govardhan Puja will also be observed on October 22, while Guru Gaddi Diwas of Sri Guru Granth Sahib will be marked on October 23.
However, government offices will remain open on reserved holidays, and regular work will continue. Employees are allowed to take only two reserved holidays in a year out of nearly 40 that are listed.
Earlier, Karwa Chauth was also marked as a reserved holiday, during which offices remained open but most women employees had availed their reserved leave.
