Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Sehat Bima Yojana’ in Chandigarh on Tuesday, under which every resident of Punjab will get free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh.

Health cards under the scheme will be issued from October 2, for which people will need to carry only their Aadhaar or voter card. Mann said that major hospitals are included in the scheme and urged people not to worry.

“Earlier, people were stuck in the blue-yellow card system. We have decided that any resident of Punjab will get treatment,” he said.

Health Minister Balbir Singh said the scheme would prove to be a boon for the people of Punjab. “After the implementation of this scheme, any person facing health-related issues will just need to visit the hospital with their Aadhaar card to get treatment,” he said.

The leaders added that the health model being implemented in Punjab is also drawing attention internationally, with the New York mayoral election reportedly being contested on a similar model of governance as that of Kejriwal and Mann.
