Chandigarh: The Punjab Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case related to 328 missing holy forms of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
According to officials, the SIT will be headed by AIG Vigilance Jagatpreet Singh (Mohali). Its members include DCP (Investigation) Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu and ADCP Harpal Singh Sandhu from Amritsar, SP (D) Patiala Gurbans Singh Bains, ACP Ludhiana Beant Juneja and ACP Amritsar Harminder Singh.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Bhullar will supervise the SIT. Vigilance Director L K Yadav said the Police Commissioner has been authorised to induct more officers from Amritsar if required and can also seek postings from other districts through his office.
The SIT will probe FIR No. 168 registered in Amritsar. Police have recently booked 16 persons in connection with the case.
However, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has termed the issue political.
The SGPC said action had already been taken as per directions of the Akal Takht and maintained that the matter pertains to financial irregularities rather than sacrilege, even as the police have registered the case under sacrilege-related provisions.
