CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government has decided to increase the state’s sugarcane price to Rs 416 per quintal, which is Rs 15 higher than last year’s rate of Rs 401. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is expected to make a formal announcement later today.
The new price also places Punjab above Haryana, where the government has fixed the sugarcane rate at Rs 415 per quintal for this year. Punjab’s move is seen as an effort to offer better returns to farmers ahead of the crushing season.
