Punjab sets up control rooms across districts as dam water levels rise

Chandigarh: With water levels in Punjab’s major dams steadily rising due to rainfall in hilly areas, the state government has set up control rooms in all 23 districts to manage any potential flood situation. These control rooms will function round the clock, officials said on Thursday.

A senior government official said that real-time monitoring of rivers and drainages in vulnerable areas is underway, and sensitive and flood-prone zones are being closely observed.

As of Thursday, the water levels in the three key dams remain within safe limits but continue to inch upwards.

The Bhakra Dam is at 1,637.4 feet, against its maximum capacity of 1,680 feet. Pong Dam has reached 1,373.08 feet (maximum capacity: 1,390 feet), and the Ranjit Sagar Dam stands at 1,694.64 feet, with a full capacity of 1,731.55 feet.
