Ontario: A 22-year-old Punjab resident, Armaan Chauhan, died in a road accident on Highway 401 in Ontario on January 5. Armaan, a student from Lalru in Mohali district, was reportedly traveling from Montreal to Toronto with a friend at the time of the incident.
According to police, Armaan was on foot, though it remains unclear why he was walking on the highway. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said they received a call reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by a car on the west lane of the highway. Upon arrival, officers found a car stopped near the median. CCTV footage is being examined to determine whether the vehicle struck Armaan or if another vehicle was involved.
Emergency services attempted to provide aid immediately, but Armaan was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Armaan was the only child of his parents, and news of his sudden death has shocked his village and family. Relatives have demanded a full and transparent investigation to ensure the truth is revealed.
The family is also facing financial and administrative challenges in bringing Armaan’s body back to India. The OPP has appealed to witnesses and those with dashcam footage to come forward. The incident raises renewed concerns about the safety of Indian students studying abroad.
