Punjab to roll out Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme across state from January 22

Chandigarh: Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Monday announced that the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme will be formally launched across the state from January 22. Under the scheme, every family in Punjab will be entitled to cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh per year.

The health minister said that pilot registrations for the scheme will begin from Tuesday in Mohali district. He added that residents holding Punjab-issued Aadhaar cards and voter identity cards will be eligible to avail benefits under the scheme.

Around 650 private healthcare facilities, along with all medical universities in the state, have already been empanelled under the scheme to ensure wide access to quality healthcare services. The minister further stated that existing beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat will be provided an additional health cover of ₹5 lakh, significantly enhancing their overall insurance coverage.

For the pilot phase, 274 registration centres have been identified across Mohali district. These include Common Service Centres (CSCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), sub-divisional hospitals and the district hospital. Registration will initially begin at eight locations in the Gharuan and Dera Bassi health blocks, following which the process will be expanded to other areas.

The state government said the scheme aims to strengthen healthcare access for all families and reduce the financial burden of medical treatment across Punjab.
