Chandigarh: A district manager of the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, died after allegedly attempting suicide in Amritsar, triggering a major political controversy in the state.
According to reports, Randhawa was under treatment at a private hospital where he succumbed. A purported video recorded before his death has surfaced on social media, in which he allegedly levelled serious allegations against cabinet minister Laljit Singh Bhullar.
Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, citing information from the family, claimed that the officer was under pressure regarding tender allocations and was also allegedly assaulted. He demanded that a murder case be registered against the minister and action be taken against officials who remained silent despite being aware of the situation.
Senior leaders, including Bikram Singh Majithia, visited the hospital and met the family members. Aujla warned of protests if strict action is not taken.
The incident has intensified political tensions, with allegations of administrative pressure leading to the officer’s death. The deceased is survived by his wife and three young children.
Meanwhile, the state government has ordered a probe into the matter. The chief minister has already sought the resignation and Bhullar tendered his resignation.
Officials said further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation.
