London: An Indian woman living in England was jailed after her documents were allegedly misused by an agent couple to send at least 14 youths abroad in the name of her husband.
The case came to light after her husband, Bhinder Singh, a resident of Rajpura in Patiala district, shared the details with the media.
According to Singh, his wife had been living in England on a work permit and in 2022, had sent sponsorship to invite him and their son there. He then contacted agent Prashant Kapoor, whom he already knew, to process his file.
Singh said he handed over all documents and paid the required fees, but his visa was rejected on grounds of concealing information about a previous overstay in the UK.
When Singh questioned the agent couple, they allegedly began to avoid him. In November 2023, his wife was suddenly arrested by the UK Immigration Department, which informed her that around 13–14 people had entered England using her documents as if they were her husband.
The misuse of sponsorship papers led to her arrest and imprisonment, Singh said. Authorities are now investigating the role of the agent couple in the fraud.
