Toronto: A young man from a village near Devidaspura in India was shot dead in Canada, triggering grief and shock across his family and the entire village.

The deceased has been identified as Simranjit Singh, a resident of Devidaspura village. The incident has left the family devastated and the village under a pall of mourning.

Simranjit’s father, Sukhdev Singh, said the family had sent his son to Canada in 2023 after selling land, hoping he would secure a better future and higher education. The family received a phone call from Canada on Thursday morning informing them that unidentified assailants had shot Simranjit dead.

As news of the killing spread, relatives and villagers gathered at the family’s home to offer condolences. The sudden death has caused widespread grief in the area.

According to the family, Canadian police have initiated an investigation and efforts are underway to identify the attackers. The family has appealed to Canadian authorities to arrest the accused at the earliest and ensure strict punishment for those responsible.
