Punjabi University VC apologises after case registered over ‘Mahan Kosh’ copies

Patiala: A day after a case was registered against Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Jagdeep Singh, Dean (Academics) Jaswinder Singh Brar, Registrar Davinder Singh, Publication Bureau in-charge Harjinderpal Singh Kalra and others for allegedly “digging pits to suppress” faulty copies of the Mahan Kosh, the VC has tendered a written apology.

He clarified that there was no “wrong copy” in the Mahan Kosh.

University authorities are also holding ‘Paath’ in the campus gurdwara to express regret and seek forgiveness over the issue.

On Friday, Patiala Police had booked the accused under Section 298 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, which pertains to damaging a place of worship with intent to insult a religion. The section carries a punishment of up to two years imprisonment, a fine, or both.
