Lahore: The return of Sarabjit Kaur, a Punjabi woman who married in Pakistan, has been delayed as Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has put a hold on issuing a special travel permit. Following this, Sarabjit Kaur, who was arrested by police, has been shifted to a Pakistani shelter home (Darul Aman), where she will remain under police protection.
Sarabjit Kaur was arrested by Pakistani police from Nankana Sahib on January 4 in connection with her visa having expired. She was scheduled to be sent back to India the same day. However, the Pakistan Interior Ministry stopped her return, citing that a case related to her is pending before the Lahore High Court.
The Punjab province Home Department has confirmed the development, saying arrangements have been made for Sarabjit Kaur’s stay in Pakistan until the necessary permit for her travel to India is issued. Officials said the permit is likely to be issued by next week.
