New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin will arrive in India on December 4 for a two-day visit, marking his first trip to the country since the Ukraine war began in 2022.
He will attend the 23rd India-Russia Summit, an annual meeting hosted alternately by the two nations, with India hosting this year’s edition.
During the summit, Putin is scheduled to hold talks with PM Narendra Modi. Discussions are expected to cover key areas including the S-400 missile system purchase, ongoing crude oil cooperation and progress on a proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA). President Droupadi Murmu will host a state dinner in his honour.
India has faced higher tariffs from the United States over its continued purchase of discounted Russian oil. The US has imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian exports, resulting in a total duty burden of around 50%, arguing that India’s oil trade with Moscow indirectly supports Russia amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
