Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, calling him “anti-national” and accusing him of siding only with Bangladeshi and Pakistani Muslims. He claimed Gandhi was not with Indian Hindus or even Indian Muslims.
Speaking to the media during an election meeting in Bodoland, CM Sarma also alleged that the Congress party disrespects cultural and religious symbols of Assam, including the Kamakhya temple and revered 15th-century saint Srimanta Sankardev.
Commenting on Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s visit to the state, Sarma said he had no objection to it but claimed that the women of Assam’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) were far more capable.
“I have no objection to Priyanka Gandhi coming to Assam. But the women of Assam’s SHGs are 100 times ahead of her. Our women make laru, pitha, work in the fields, and send their children to school and college. How will Priyanka Gandhi compete with them?” he said.
