New Delhi: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Thursday met Punjab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi and raised concern over what he described as the rapidly deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Warring said gang wars, targeted killings, extortion attempts and frequent incidents of robbery have become routine in Punjab. He added that criminals operating from abroad as well as from inside jails were openly issuing threats to politicians, officials and ordinary citizens.
He accused both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab and the BJP-led Centre of remaining silent spectators. Warring said this amounted to not only administrative failure but also an abdication of responsibility.
Speaking to the media, Warring declined to comment further on the suspension of former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu from the Congress. “I don’t want to interfere with who is doing what. I will only say that once a matter is disposed of, there should be no further discussion on it,” he said.
The internal tension between Warring and Navjot Kaur Sidhu has been visible in recent days. While Warring has adopted a cautious approach by avoiding remarks on disciplinary issues, Sidhu’s suspension has added fuel to speculation about differences in leadership style and influence within the party.
