Rajasthan High Court grants six-month bail to Asaram Bapu on medical grounds

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan High Court has granted six-month bail to self-styled godman Asaram Bapu on medical grounds. Asaram is currently serving a life sentence for raping a minor.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Sanjiv Prakash Sharma and Justice Sangeeta Sharma passed the order while hearing his petition seeking suspension of sentence and regular bail.

Asaram, who has been in jail since April 2018, was first granted interim bail on medical grounds on January 7, 2025, after spending 12 years behind bars. The bail was later extended in July and August. However, on August 27, a bench of Justices Dinesh Mehta and Vineet Kumar Mathur had dismissed his plea for a further extension of interim bail.

This is the fourth time Asaram has been granted bail on medical grounds.
