Rajya Sabha Member and Deputy Commissioner hand over relief cheques to four families of village Mandala Chhanna

Punjab Government stands with the affected families in this difficult time

Jalandhar News: Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal on Friday handed over relief cheques of Rs. 51,000 each to four affected families of village Mandala Chhanna in Sub Division Shahkot for the damage caused to their houses.

On this occasion, the Rajya Sabha Member and the Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the ongoing work for strengthening the embankment at Mandala Chhanna village.

Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stands firmly with the affected families in this difficult time and is working day and night to extend all possible help to people hit by floods. He mentioned that a special girdawari has already been conducted in the affected areas to assess the losses and compensation will soon be provided for damage caused to crops, property, livestock, etc.

He also appreciated the efforts of the Drainage Department and other officials of the administration, under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, who along with the local Sangat have been working for several days to secure the vulnerable edge of the embankment. He said that with the cooperation of the people, the district administration has succeeded to a large extent in protecting the embankment.

The Deputy Commissioner thanked Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal for his support in the embankment strengthening work. He added that officers and employees of the Drainage Department along with other departments and local people are working tirelessly and diligently day and night to prevent any breach.

He also reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment to provide due compensation to the affected families.
Sant Seechewal and Dr. Aggarwal also distributed tents, tarpaulins, ration, medical kits, blankets, and other essential items to the affected families.

On this occasion, they also listened to the grievances of the local people and assured them that their problems would be resolved at the earliest.
Prominent among those present included AAP leader Pinder Pandori, SDM Shahkot Shubhi Angra, DSP Onkar Singh Brar, Tehsildar Shahkot Jaspal Singh, officers of the Drainage Department, and office bearers of the District Red Cross Society.
