Chandigarh: Union Minister of State for Railways and senior BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu will accompany Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a visit to the flood-affected areas of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday.
Political observers view the move as a significant gesture, signalling Bittu’s growing influence within the BJP, possibly overshadowing Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar.
According to party insiders, Bittu will also join a crucial meeting with Punjab government officials in Gurdaspur this evening to review the flood situation and discuss coordinated relief efforts.
The Prime Minister and Bittu are expected to travel to the affected regions soon after casting their votes in the Vice Presidential election.
Notably, Bittu will be the only BJP minister from Punjab to accompany the Prime Minister — a role usually reserved for state presidents or senior leaders. Sources said his inclusion reflects the party’s positioning of him as a prominent Sikh face in Punjab, where the BJP is seeking to strengthen its base.
