NEW DELHI: Following the powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort that killed eight people and injured several others, the Delhi Police have interrogated the car owner, identified as Salman Khan, in connection with the incident. Officials said Khan is a resident of Delhi and the registered owner of the vehicle that exploded near Gate No. 1 of the Lal Qila metro station on Monday evening.
Police sources said forensic teams are examining the blast site while CCTV footage from the area is being analysed to determine how the explosion occurred. Initial findings suggest that the car had been parked in the area for several hours before it exploded, setting nearby vehicles on fire.
Authorities have released the list of deceased and injured, most of whom were tourists and local vendors present near the Red Fort at the time of the explosion.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has convened a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday to review the situation. Shah, who met the injured at LNJP Hospital, said it was too early to comment on the cause of the blast.
The explosion comes days after 2,900 kg of explosives were recovered in Haryana’s Faridabad, raising serious security concerns across the National Capital Region.
