Chandigarh: The premature repatriation of DGP Harpreet Singh Sidhu, a 1992-batch IPS officer, has triggered speculation about possible changes in the post of Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP). Sidhu had earlier appealed for his return to the parent cadre.
“Harpreet Singh Sidhu, IPS (PB:1992), who was posted as Additional Director General (ADG) of ITBP, is being prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre,” the government order said.
The directive added that Sidhu was allowed to return “on his own request with immediate effect under the provisions of Para 14.1 of the IPS Service Policy.”
Both Sidhu and the current state police chief, DGP Gaurav Yadav, belong to the 1992 batch of the IPS. Sidhu, however, is senior to Yadav in the gradation list. While Sidhu is due to retire on May 31, 2027, Yadav’s superannuation is scheduled for April 30, 2029.
