Berlin: German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) has reported that US President Donald Trump made at least four attempts to speak with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone in recent weeks, but Modi did not take the calls.
The report suggests this reflects “the depth of his (Modi’s) anger, but his alertness,” amid rising tensions between the two countries.
Relations have been strained since the US imposed an additional 25 per cent tariff on India as a penalty for purchasing oil from Russia.
Thorsten Benner, co-founder and director of the Berlin-based Global Public Policy Institute, shared the FAZ report on X on Tuesday, along with a copy of the news report.
