Chandigarh: A late-night road rage incident in Mohali’s Dhakoli area turned fatal after a shooting near Hotel Swen-2 in Kishanpura, leaving a 24-year-old man dead and another critically injured.
According to police, the incident occurred following a dispute over overtaking vehicles on the road. What began as a minor argument quickly escalated. Police said Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Radhe Homes Society in Dhakoli, allegedly called his associates to the spot and opened fire.
Prince (24) sustained serious gunshot injuries and was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Another victim, Bharat Bhushan (42), was also hit by bullets and has been admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali. His condition is reported to be critical.
The firing triggered panic in the surrounding area, with residents rushing indoors after hearing gunshots. On receiving information, police teams reached the spot, cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.
Police said the main accused, Kuldeep Singh, has been arrested, while efforts are on to trace and apprehend his accomplices. A forensic team collected empty cartridges and other crucial evidence from the crime scene.
Investigators are also probing the source of the weapons used in the shooting and checking whether the accused have any prior criminal record. Security has been tightened in the area with increased police patrolling to maintain law and order.
