New Delhi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday said that after attaining the age of 75, others should be given opportunities, indicating that leaders should gradually step aside with age.
“When you are wearing a shawl on the completion of 75 years, it means that we are old, now we should be a little sidelined,” Bhagwat said.
He was speaking at the launch of a book on Moropant Pingle, the inspiration behind the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, on July 9.
Although Bhagwat did not mention Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the opposition has linked his remarks to the PM, who will turn 75 in September this year, the same month as Bhagwat.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said that Modi had forcibly retired senior BJP leaders like L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Jaswant Singh after they turned 75. “Now let’s see if Modi himself will follow it or not,” Raut said.
