CHANDIGARH: President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Sudhar Lehar Giani Harpreet Singh has offered to resign from his post, sources said.
According to sources, he tendered his resignation during a meeting held in Chandigarh, reportedly upset over the rhetoric used by some party leaders. However, there has been no formal confirmation so far and the party has not accepted the resignation.
Sources said Gurpratap Singh Badala did not submit his resignation.
Two days ago, Manpreet Singh Ayali, who was involved in the new formation of party process, said he was not part of any faction. He said he had been assigned duty at Shri Akal Takht, which he was carrying out. Sources said Ayali was hurt by certain remarks made by leaders.
Sources further said that during the meeting, Giani Harpreet Singh reiterated that he was not interested in the party presidency earlier and was not interested even now. The party meeting was described as tumultuous.
After the meeting, Giani Harpreet Singh briefly met the media but did not comment on the developments.
